Republicans and Hogs, the Tragedy of the Commons

May 1, 2017  By Jack Jodell (in association with the gifted writer BURR DEMING, creator of and chief author over at the brilliant blog site Fair and Unbalanced.com – see my Blogroll in the lower right hand column of this page).

COUNTDOWN: As of today, there remain 1,361 days left in this horrible administration’s term in office…

Happy May Day, everyone! Today’s podcast is a fabulous example of what is wrong with the Libertarian Koch brothers’ approach to our economy and government. It has come  to dominate current CON-servative reactionary Republican thinking to a large degree, and this is to the detriment of everybody. After all, libertarianism is a philosophy designed by and for the benefit of almost exclusively the 1% minority billionaires, so it is hardly practical for the rest of us, who are the 99% MAJORITY. Burr ties it in specifically with hog farming in North Carolina, but as you will see, it is applicable to nearly all aspects of current Republican thinking.

Burr tells us, “An economic theory from 1833 has become a nightmare for many in North Carolina…the Tragedy of the Commons refers to any situation in which the self-interest of each comes at the expense of all…citizens might rely on cattle-owners to self-regulate. If the owners recognize a common interest, they can form a common agreement. Each will graze this much and no more.

If there are just a few cattle barons, and they share all or at least nearly all of the common grazing, a means to detect violations might be all that is needed. If I catch you violating the agreement, the deal is off and all of us will suffer. If there are a lot of cattle owners, or if the community itself is burdened with too much of the cost, some sort of enforcement and penalty is needed. If you violate the agreement, we will impose enough individual pain to overcome that individual incentive. When everyone backs off, everyone benefits.

If the non-cattle community interest is way greater than the combined interest of the cattle owners, the community may decide to impose an agreement. Families want a place to walk or picnic or fish. Perhaps the cost to the community of replanting is prohibitive.

There are actions that would meet the standards of other ideologies. The commons may simply be placed off limits to cattle. Or a fee may be imposed. In a libertarian world, the commons itself would be abolished and sold to individual owners. There is no Tragedy of the Commons if there is no commons. This is also becoming the preferred solution of Republicans.

The Tragedy of the Commons becomes the complex common problem of all when the commons is not easily divided but does affect everyone: for example the air we breathe or the water we drink…

It should serve as a warning for conservatives today.”

THE WORST 100 DAYS!

Apr. 27, 2017  By Jack Jodell, American Dissident, N.M.P.

COUNTDOWN: As of today, only 1,365 more days remain in this horrid administration’s term in office…

Saturday will mark the current President’s 100th day in office. President Donald Chump, the Liar-in-Chief, recently stated in one of his numerous preposterous Tweets, “No matter how much I accomplish during the ridiculous standard of the first 100 days, it has been a lot…” Like nearly everything this phony writes or says, that is a LIE.  In the first place, this jerk has accomplished very little of value to this country  since his inauguration, unless you consider his insulting our five biggest trading partners to be of value or his taunting of North Korea which has led directly to the detaining of an American citizen   wishing to leave that country somehow valuable, which it is surely NOT. Second, he has failed miserably in his campaign vow to replace “Obamacare”, even though his party controls ALL branches of the government! Third, he is dangerously rattling his saber at North Korea, goading on an equally mad head of state who is threatening to launch a nuclear war if the U.S. doesn’t stop threatening it. This awkward attempt at bullying a crazy dictator to bolster his popularity among his countrymen shows how reckless Chump truly is. After all, ANY idiot knows better than to poke a stick into a beehive full of unstable, angry bees!  Fourth, Chump’s bombing of Syrian airfields was also a miserable failure. It failed to deliver a knockout blow to Syria’s air force, as he had previously notifued Russia, Syria’s ally, and they were able to notify the Syrians in advance of the raid.  Fifth, his decision to drop the gargantuan “Mother Of All Bombs” (MOAB) in Afghanistan was also a miserable failure. It killed very few of the “enemy” and did little of military signifigance. Sixth, Chump has also failed miserably in his nutty pledge to build a wall at our southern border and have Mexico pay for its construction. Once the Mexican President refused to pay for such a monstosity, Chump tried to put it in his budget and have US pay for it, but once again his own party has refused to allow even a penny to be spent on such a foolish project. Seventh, he has additionally failed miserably in his repeated attempts to keep Muslim immigrants from entering this country. Time after time, judges all across the nation have blocked his clumsy, discriminatory, and unconstitutional bans on Muslims. Lastly, what he has done in his first 100 days PALES GREATLY in comparison with what his predecessors accomplished in that same time frame. Thanks to an article which appeared in  a recent fivethirtyeight blog, in addition to other related sources, this should enlighten us, even if it has eluded the delusional Mr. Chump:

PRESIDENTIAL BILLS PASSED INTO LAW DURING FIRST 100 DAYS
Franklin Roosevelt 76

Harry Truman 55

Dwight Eisenhower 22

John Kennedy 26

Lyndon Johnson 10

Richard Nixon 9

Jimmy Carter 22

Ronald Reagan 9

George H.W. Bush 18

Bill Clinton 24

George W. Bush 7

Barack Obama 11

Donald Chump 26    (as well as numerous “Executive Orders” he signed, many of which have been overturned by judges, which does NOT count as a bill being passed)!

Chump’s lying Press Secretary Sean Spicer, also stated that Chump has been engaged in a record amount of activity which will eventually create a lot of new jobs. That, of course, remains to be seen, especially considering that this President has all-time record low approval ratings, and there is little evidence to suggest that Congress will line up solidly in favor of any fiture initiatives Chump may embark upon! Spicer, notoriously bad at lying on his feet, ended up getting tongue-tied once again as he tried to spin his way out of this latest line of questioning during his press briefings.

Chump, having been a spoiled little brat his entire life, is woefully ignorant of past history and precedent. He is so blind he actually believes that the same type of manipulation he has employed numerous times in the business world will also work for him in the political world. WRONG, Donnie boy! He will meet with Canadian Premier Trudeau soon; has already met with, insulted, and soured relations with  German Prime Minister Angela Merkel, and has failed to get Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to agree to build a wall separating Mexico and the U.S. at Mexican expense. He has embraced anti-democracy Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , threatened unstable North Korean leader Kim Jong-un with a pre-emptive military strike, and has shown little knowledge of, or regard for, many other countries, including our NATO allies. How much longer will the international community tolerate his insane eccentricities and abysmal lack of knowledge before he plunges the U.S. into a bloody and costly war?

Chump is delusional if he actually believes he has accomplished “a lot” during his first 100 days in office: in many ways, it has been the WORST 100 days in presidential history! His administration has been unequalled  in its lack of cohesive coordination. Chump has confused taking action with actual accomplishment, and there is a HUGE difference between the two! There is a very good reason Chump’s approval ratings have lagged far behind those of his predecessors at similar dates in their administrations: Chump is doing a horseshit job, and his claim that those numerous approval ratings are all “fake news” is pure bullshit!

This ignorant, arrogant, and dangerous moron has got to GO as quickly as possible – he is in WAY over his head! That is why, in the 2018 midterm elections, it is CRUCIAL that his backward-looking, CON-servative Republican Party, which supports him mainly and only because he is a Republican, must be thrown out of office and replaced by Progressive, clear-thinking people who actually KNOW something about the rest of the world, our government,  and how it all works!

FOCUS! ORGANIZE! RESIST!!!

Trump, Kim, and the Nedelin Disaster

Apr. 24, 2017   By Jack Jodell (in association with the gifted writer BURR DEMING, creator of and chief author over at the brilliant blog site Fair and Unbalanced.com – see my Blogroll in the right hand column of this page).

COUNTDOWN: As of today, only 1,368 more days remain in this horrid administration’s term in office. (I apologize for my poor math up until now, and how this figure has varied. With my new calculator, my future posts will be accurate as far as this countdown is concerned)….

Happy last Monday of April, everybody! In today’s offering, our podcaster extraordinaire BURR DEMING portrays three separate, overly-agressive madmen: two of them living, and one of them dead, consumed by his own aggressive recklessness. Harkening back to a lesson which should have been learned back in 1960 from a fatal mishap in the old Soviet Union, Burr shows us how, once again, rashness and recklessness by certain key individuals may yet lead us into a totally avoidable fatal mishap in today’s world. As the current detaining of American citizens wishing to leave North Korea shows, brinksmanship only promotes more brinksmanship, and can often lead to fully avoidable fatal consequences. Let us hope that common sense and reason wil, once more, save the day now…

Burr states, “Mitrofan Nedelin set off an explosion in the Soviet Empire in 1960 that killed an amazing number of scientists.

He also managed to leave a lesson for North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-un, and for President Trump.”

AN “ENEMIES LIST” I’M SURE MOST WILL AGREE WITH!

Apr. 20, 2017  By Jack Jodell, American Dissident, N.M.P.

COUNTDOWN: As of today, only 1,404 more days remain in this horrid administration’s term in office…

Most of us remember the disgraced renegade President Richard Nixon, and his paranoid “enemies list” of opponents he was fearful of and wanted to eradicate politically. Younger readers may also remember that insane blabbermouth Sarah Palin, and her “hit list” of Democrats, complete with bullseyes, that she was urging voters to reject. Regrettably, one of her equally insane followers took her advice, shot and permanently crippled AZ Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, and permanently changed her life for the worst.

Well, this blogger is neither paranoid nor insane, but rather well-reasoned and reseatched, and, just like everyone else, am ntitled to omy own beliefs and opinions,  I will exercise the liberty today to list my own personal “enemies list.”  I previously had featured a number of people I greatly admire, but today I shall take an opposite approach. You may or may not agree with some of these, and that, of course, is your prerogative. But here they are:

1). The newer, radical, and extremely far-right CON-servative Republican Party. The adherents of this newer, far more corrupt version of the GOP are basically shills for multinational corporations, big industry, the gluttonous insurance industry, big pharma, and the billionaire class, and I don’t have the time of day for ANY of them! They preach “free” markets and fiscal responsibility, yet they legislate in favor of anti-free market monopolies and allow the President to spend like a drunken sailor,  just because he is a Republican…even worse, they block and obstruct legislation which could prove beneficial to the entire country.  They wantonly deliver huge, unneeded tax breaks for billionaires who don’t need them, yet they try to cut back on much-needed programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and even Social Security DISABILITY benefits – each of which they deem are abused and overfunded. These creeps include, but are not limited to, President Donald Chump, Speaker of the House Paul RUIN (Ryan), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Office of Management and Budget head Mick  Mulvaney, Congressman Darrel Issa, Congressman Steve King, and a good many others, each of whom has perverted the meaning of true conservatism to please their monopolistic billionaire Wall Street masters.

2).  NEOLIBERAL icons, who have betrayed the ideals of the once-great worker, middle class, and poor-oriented Democratic Party  in favor of Wall Street bankers and the like. This list includes, but is not limited to, wimpy “blue dog” Democrats, Bill AND Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and ALL who cowed in fear rather than rising up against the likes of “W” and DICK Cheney in the 2000s, and Donald Chump today! At a time when corporate CEOs are raping their workers’ paychecks to gluttonously stuff their own pockets, when social safety net programs are under threat, when Social Security benefits need to RISE rather than being scaled back, and the military/industrial complex is getting woefully fat with unneeded and wasteful funding, these neoliberals are choosing to deliberately stand by and let it all happen. In doing this, they are abandoning their usual MAJORITY coalition of middle class, union, poor and disabled voters and allowing CON-servative Republicans to carry the day in all things legislative and judicial. Absolutely disgusting and most UNpatriotic!

3). The warmongering and hawkish NEOCONSERVATIVES. This group features a bunch of cowards who used deferments to escape military service but upon gaining power embarked on wars of conquest and threats of war to advance their own personal agendas.  It includes such cowards as former Vice President DICK Cheney (who had “other priorities” to attend to during his period of eligibility for service in Vietnam, but pushed strongly for waging an illegal war, using war crimes, in Iraq while in office), Donald Rumsfeld (another mouthy warmonger), Donald Chump (the belligerent “deferer-in-chief” who now threatens war all over if he can’t get his way), and all the greedy board members and CEOs who have profited immensely off the military/industrial complex for many years. These dangerous people have never met a war they didn’t like or couldn’t profit from, and many of them should be indicted and sentenced for war crimes!

4).  The CEOs and boards of mainstream media companies, who have turned coverage of the news  into “infotainment” rather than being a good source of information and discussion of issues, as it used to be. They are deliberately sacrificing an intelligent, informed public for mere short-term, corporate profits.  This is despicable, short-sighted, dangerous, irresponsible, and indefensible!

5). Colluding and corrupt politicians who call themselves “Democrats” but all too often vote with CON-servative Republicans and support a corporatist agenda. These opportunistic phonies stand in direct opposition to progressives, needy workers, the elderly, minorities, the poor, and the disabled. These are a deceitful and traitorous lot  who are thoroughly despicable and corrupted. They include the likes of WV Sen. Joe (“I’m so proud of the NRA”) Manchin, who also is the father of the notorious pharmaceutical company head  Heather Bresch, who not too long ago astronomically and very greedily raised the price of Epi-Pens by an astounding amount.  Thoroughly disgusting, and most corrupt indeed!

6).  The very blind and contemptible head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce,  Tom Donohue, and the head of the NRA Wayne LaPierre – BOTH of whom are vastly overpaid (at $4,916,000 and $972,000 respectively), and NEITHER of which is serving the public interest in any way! These are paranoid, deluded men who carry great but wholly undeserved political influence. Donohue, always afraid of government attempts to level the economic playing field, is strongly opposed to labor unions and the minimum wage, as well as the government. The jerky LaPierre also hates government influence and is also dismissive of the public’s desire for any restrictions at all on gun ownership, even for mentally unbalanced types. How do we allow paranoids like this to rise and thrive in our country?

7). Extremely arrogant and condescending Congressional members like Oklahoma’s Republican 2nd District Representative Markwayne Mullin, who, at a recent town hall meeting held before his constituents, had the audacity to tell his taxpaying constituents that it was “bullcrap” that taxpayers pay his salary. He stated, “I pay for myself. I paid enough taxes before I got here and continue to through my company to pay my own salary. This is a service. No one here pays me to go.” BullSHIT, you conceited self-centered idiot!  This arrogant, pompous, and sadly mistaken jerk ignores the FACT that, according to the Congressional Research Service within the Library of Congress as of January 2012, the salary of a U.S. representative is $174,000 per year, (motr than FOUR TIMES as much as an average workers’ salary), plus benefits which include allowances, cost-of-living adjustments, enrollment in a pension, health benefits, personnel, mail, and office expenses, and a paid travel allowance as well. I would strongly urge his constituents to BOOT this complacent jerk’s ass out of Congress in 2018, and replace him with a much less hostile progressive who will value the salary provided by these taxpayers!

8). Last, but certainly not least, is the President himself – Donald CHUMP. This spoiled little 10 year old brat, through his cowardly refusal to release his tax returns AND his refusal to allow the public to see his White House visitors list, has slapped every worker and legitimate taxpayer in the face with such arrogance. This is no friend of the working people of this country, but rather an enemy. What exactly are you trying to hide, old man? And who the hell do you think you’re fooling? Are you auditioning for a cold, damp jail cell with a dose of hard labor thrown in for good measure?

These are but a few of the many losers we are faced with today who seek to expand corporate power as they try to eliminate the power of individuals. Regrettably, there are many, MANY more! Please suggest any others you may feel need to be added to this list. Thank you!

Tripwire – The Trump Dilemma in Syria

Apr. 17, 2017  By Jack Jodell, American Dissident, N.M.P. (in association with the gifted writer BURR DEMING, creator of and chief author over at the brilliant blog site Fair and UNbalanced. com – see my Blogroll at the lower right hand column of this page).

COUNTDOWN: Only 1,407  days remain in this horrid administration’s term in office…

Happy Monday after Easter, everybody! The ever-thoughtful Burr Deming, our Master Podcaster, has given a lot of thought to how our current President frequently acts rashly, often by impulse and without sufficient thought. In today’s podcast, he compares approaches taken by several previous Presidents to crises they faced with those taken by our current President in Yemen and Syria. The contrasts are enlightening, to say the least.

Burr says, President Trump’s attack on Syria was less effective because he let Putin Know first.

He had to.
Here’s why.”

THE DAMNING PROOF THAT CON-SERVATIVE REPUBLICANS HAVE SOLD YOU OUT!

Apr. 13, 2017  By Jack Jodell, American Dissident, N.M.P.

COUNTDOWN:  As of today, only 1,412 more days remain in this horrid administration’s term in office…

In March, Congress voted to allow your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to legally SELL YOUR internet browsing history to the highest bidder. This, of course, is a MASSIVE overreach as well as an INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY! Now that Donald Chump has signed it into law, expect your email inbox and your snail mail letterbox to gradually be flooded with unwanted solicitations and junk mail thanks to this sell-out of your privacy. Regrettably,  there won’t be a damn thing you can do about it!  Those of you who believe that there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans, please note that NOT ONE DEMOCRAT voted for this putrid bill – it was supported by and passed ONLY with con-servative Republican votes and was signed into law by that horrid Republican President we are now cursed with! This Republican obsession with pleasing big business and multinational corporations has gotten WAY out of hand, and the lies they are telling about how it will expand “choice” for consumers is disgusting! The Republican Party is now thoroughly under the full control – 100% – of corporatists masquerading as “free market” enthusiasts, and they are LYING to us about their agenda! As you’ll see below, these Republicans were paid quite handsomely for their votes – proof positive of the immediate need to GET MONEY OUT OF OUR POLITICS! Thanks to excellent tabulations by The Verge.com, here is the proof, broken down by Senate and then House. Read it and weep, friends. Better yet, VOTE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE OVERLY PRO-CORPORATE REPUBLICANS OUT OF OFFICE BEGINNING IN 2018 AND CONTINUING THROUGH THE 2022 MIDTERMS! This is a cleansing purge we NEED to support! They are all bought-out shills who only care about money and power – NOT YOU!

Retiring an Old Conservative Tradition, Creating Two More

Apr. 10, 2017  By Jack Jodell, American Dissident, N.M.P. (in association with the gifted writer BURR DEMING, creator of and chief author over at the brilliant blog site Fair and UNbalanced. com – see my Blogroll at the lower right hand column of this page).

Happy start of a new week, everybody! In today’s podcast, our master podcaster Burr Deming gives us the true lowdown about the “nuclear option” Senate Republicans led by Mitch McConnell just employed to get the abominable Neil Gorsuch nominated to the now-more-than-ever Extreme Court. It can no longer be denied: this current crop of congressional Republicans will do anything to win at any time, so long as they get what they want. Just wait until 2018 – WE will have the last laugh and final victory – the GOP’s delusions of grandeur will be short-lived!

Burr says, “Republicans have now partially ended one tradition.

And they have started two more that seem to them as natural as breathing.”
