COUNTDOWN: There are still 972 days to go in this miserably mundane misadministration’s term in office…
The childish and very immature Presi-dunce Donald Chump has recently begun an all-out war on his Justice Department, which is futile and can only end up in his eventual (SOON, I hope!) removal from office. In fairness to his Vice Presi-dense Mike Pence, it cannot be an easy task running around behind this Presi-dunce and being forced to kiss his ass the way Pence does continually. For Chump demands loyalty (slavery?), and that is exactly what the non-thinking Pence has always given him.
Pence was born in 1959 and raised in a Democratic Irish Catholic family in Columbus, IN. He was originally inspired to get into public service by such noted liberals as President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., and even voted and campaigned for the re-election of President Jimmy Carter as late as 1980. However, he became an evangelical while in college and, much to his mother’s disappointment, not only abandoned Catholicism but also the Democratic Party, becoming strongly conservative in his religious, economic, and social beliefs. Attracted by the conservatism of Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, Pence eventually went far to the right of where even Reagan had been, as has today’s CON-servative reactionary Republican Party. Pence has been quoted as saying he is “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.” (It would appear that he, like so many of today’s GOP who claim to be God-fearing Christians, has chosen to totally ignore Matthew 25:26-41, and James 2:14-17). He has called himself a principled conservative, and embraced the Tea Party when it first emerged in 2010. That shows how much further rightward than Reagan Pence has drifted, and how extremist he really is.
Pence went through college and eventually earned a law degree from Indiana University. He met his future wife, Karen, while they were both students there. After graduation from law school, he settled into private practice, and, in 1988, unsuccessfully ran for Congress. This unsuccessful run was again repeated in 1990. The following year, he became president of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation, a sort of free-market economics think tank and also a member of the conservative State Po;icy Network, a group headquartered in Virginia to advance conservative ideology at the state level. Just after his first run for Congress, Pence became host of a weekly half-hour radio talk show called Washington Update with Mike Pence. Four years later, it became a daily talk show. Dense Pence, ever the gentleman, began referring to himself as “Rush Limbaugh on decaf” meaning that, while still a rigid conservative, he was both less offensive and outspoken than the loudnouthed blowhard Limbaugh. His nowly-named Mike Pence Show gained access to 18 different markets in Indiana, including the large Indianapolis market, and helped successfully propel him into the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2000 election.
Once in Congress, Dense Pence voted a strict conservative line, voting against both of Republican President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind and Medicare Part D education and health care proposals. He won re-election several more times, and attempted to climb the ladder in House Republican circles, even challenging (but eventually losing to) John Boehner, who would become House Speaker. So Pence instead focused on becoming Republican Conference Chairman. This was the third-hoghest ranking position in GOP House levels, and he won election to that post. During Pence’s six terms (12 years) in Congress, he introduced 90 bills and resolutions, but absolutely NONE ever became law! A 2008 Esquire magazine article stated that his “unalloyed traditional conservatism has repeatedly pitted him against his party elders.” The increasingly rightward drift of his wretched party led his name to pop up as a possible contender for presidrent in both 2008 and 2012, but Pence opted instead to return home to run for Governor. The previous Republican governor had reached his term limits, so Pence ran and was narrowly elected governor in a three-way race in 2012.
While governor, Pence pushed for and received massive state budget cuts, which included $14 million from colleges and universities, $12 million from the department of correction, and $27 million from the Family snd Social Services Administration. During Pence’s term, Indiana’s job growth lagged just behind the national average, and, by 2014, the state’s economy was among the country’s slowest-growing, averaging a paltry 0.4% GDP growth, versus a much more robust 2.2% nationally. When, at the beginning of 2016, greedy Indiana-based corporations Carrier and United Technologies Electronic Controls announced they would be closing and then moving 2 plants to Mexico (at a cost of 2,100 Indiana jobs), all Pence could do was to express his “deep disappointment.” And all of this came after the Pence-led Indiana Economic Development Corporation had given out nearly $9 MILLION in tax relief incentives to a total of 10 companies which ended up shipping jobs out of the country! In a definite anti-worker, pro-corporation move, Pence actually signed ito law a bill which forbade businesses from paying higher wages or benefits above those required by federal law! Worst of all, this dense corporate stooge also repealed a longstanding Indiana law which required construction companies building publicly-funded projects to pay a prevailing wage! Naturally, Pence also supported and passed “right to work” legislation (which I and many others refer to as “the right to work for less”). Pence also favored a 10 percent state income tax cut, got 5% instead, as well as the elimination of the inheritance tax.
So much for “free market” economics…his unfailing support for the wealthy over everyone else is despicable!
Additionally as governor, Pence has supported increases in funding to charter schools and to vouvher programs, but has left traditional public schools wanting. When the public strenuously objected to his refusal to fund a preschool program, he relented and finally agreed to accept federal funding – previously, this moronic “states’ rights” advocate had viewed acceptance of that funding as an “intrusion.” Pence has also meddled against teachers unions and has opposed numerous initiatives they wished to bring forth.
Like his equally backward-looking master, Chump, dense Pence has come out strongly in support of coal and has repeatedly opposed efforts to foster renewable energy use. Anybody want to return to using horses and buggies? Regarding guns. he is a solid supporter of the NRA and is pledged to oppose any and all efforts of any kind to restrict or regulate gun usage or ownership by anybody. So much for Christian values and morals…
Evidently he believes the 5th Commandment really reads “Thou Shalt Not Kill, Unless a Gun is Used!”
On other questions of morality, Pence is as straight-laced as Chump is devious. He defunded Planned Parenthood and caused a rise in HIV infections in his state due to his opposition not only to needle exchange programs, which had been administered by Planned Parenthood and did, in fact, prevent the trsnsmission of HIV. He also pushed for the passage of laws which make it easier to discriminate against those in the LGBT community. Aside from numerous other acts he has done against workers, Pence walked out of an NFL game to show his displeasure with the way black (as well as many white) athletes were kneeling rather than standing during the playing of the National Anthem to protest ongoing police brutality against black citizens. He has opposed laws banning discrimination based on sexual preference, and is so disgustingly straight-laced and downright SQUARE that he will even avoid being in the presence of women other than his wife whenever possible (a little trick he has borrowed from the late Rev. Billy Graham). Pence may look harmless and benign, but as I have shown here, he is actually waaayyyy far to the right socially, economically, and politically. That’s why Chump selected him to be his running mate.
He is sneakily just prowling in the weeds, hoping to someday make it to the presidency by himself. His adoring, hero-worshiping gazes at Donald Chump are nauseous reminders of the way Nancy Reagan used to gaze adoringly at her husband during his terms, and should make us all bound-determined to keep him out of that office permanently! This guy is a pathetic, willing stooge and sell-out!
