COUNTDOWN: As we give thanks today, let us all be grateful that only 1,155 days (and counting!) still remain in this most corrupt and worst-ever administration in our entire history!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Hopefully, each of you will enjoy a wonderful holiday filled with family, friends, relatives, happiness, and good food! As I consider the things I am most grateful for these days, one name keeps popping into my thoughts: the enlightened billionaire, philanthropist, environmentalist and activist, TOM STEYER.

Steyer was born in Manhattan in 1957, the son of a Jewish attorney father, a partner of the New York law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell, and an Episcopalian mother, who taught remedial reading to inmates at the Brooklyn House of Detention. Steyer was educated at the Phillips Exeter Academy, and earned a degree in both Economics and Political Science, graduating summa cum laude from Yale University. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Later on, he received his MBA from Stanford Business School, where he became an Arjay Miller Scholar.  After laving Yale and before attending business school, he worked for 2 years at Morgan Stanley. After business school, he worked for 2 more years at Goldman Sachs,   as an associate in the risk arbitrage division,. There he was involved in mergers and acquisitions. Later on,  became a member and a partner of the Executive Committee at a San Francisco-based equity firm called  Hellman & Friedman.

In 1986, he founded Farallon Capital and became its co-sebior managing partner there in San Francisco. He also co-founded OneCalifornia Bank, which eventually became Brneficial State Bank, through merger. This Oakland-based bank specializes in community development projects, (including funds for nonprofits and other underserved businesses), while his Farallpn Capital managed $20 BILLION in capital for both institutions and very wealthy individuals. Its institutional investors include college endowments and even foundations.

In 2006, Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor, founded OneRoof, a firm dedicated to bringing technology to the poor in rural  India.  The next year, he and his wife put up $22.5 million to start the Beneficial Bank, and to launch the OnePacificCoastFoundation, which has specialized in charitable activities. In 2010, this remarkable couple signed The Giving Pledge to donate half of their fortune to charity during their lifetimes.

In 2012, Steyer sold his share in Fallaron and retired, in a bid to devote more time and energy to both politics and the environment. He started NextGenAmerica, a nonprofit to support progressive solutions on education, immigration, health care, and climate change, plus alternative energy.  Also that year, he got rid of all of his holdings in carbon-polluting investments, and hosted a two day think-tank event called “The Big Think Climate Meeting” to discuss ways to best deal with climate change.

Steyer and his wife created the TomKat Ranch in Pescadero, CA to research  nd display a sustainable way of doing agriculture, in the process funding healthy food programs and also to produce a film called La Mission. Steyer became a board member of Next Generation, a non-profit trying to tackle children’s issues and the environment. In 2013, Steyer founded NextGen Climate, an environmental advocacy nonprofit group, which is also a political action committee. Next, in 2015, Steyer launched the Fair Shake Commission on Income Inequality and Middle Class Opportunity, whose intent was to advocate policies for promoting income equality.

With his enlightened, progressive outlook, Steyer has been a long time supporter and fundraiser for many Democratic Party endeavors, raising money for both Walter Mondale’s and John Kerry’s respective presidential campaigns, and became a leading supporter and fundraiser for the campaigns of Batack Obama and Hillary Clinton.  He has become involved with the Democracy Alliance, a network of progressive donors, whose members are required to donate at least $200,000 a year to recommended organizations.

Some have compared Stryer with the notorious anti-government, ;libertarian  Koch brothers due to his status as a billionaire heavily engaged in expensive political activism. The biggest difference netween he and they, though, os that  Steyer has been FAR more visible and far LESS sneaky about the way he conducts his activism! He is justifiably considered to be an adversary of the greedy Kochs.  Indeed, he has put his money where his mouth is and has opposed both the Keystone Pipeline, the attempted repeal of Obamacare, and even this so-called “tax reform” nonsense the GOP and President Chump have launched and are attempring to pass. This enlightened billionaire also supports the adoption of a $15 per hour minimum wage to help end our record wealth disparity.

Alarmed with the unexpected victory of Donald Chump in 2016, as well as with Chump’s wacko anti-press and anti0environmemt tirades, along with Chump’s flirtation with starting a nuclear conflict with North Korea, Steyer has now put forth a $10 million television ad campaign to impeach this worthless President.

I greatly encourage you to join both Tom Steyer and myself in suggesting to our lawmakers to impeach this reckless, careless, and dangerous man who has lied and bullied his way into our Oval Office. Please check out this link below – Tom Steyer has a voice which needs to be heard bu ALL citizens – Thank you! 🙂

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.
