COUNTDOWN: As of today, there are still a god-awful 1,330 days left in this horrible administration’s term in office…

“Nothing is more certain than the indispensable necessity of government, and it is equally undeniable, that whenever and however it is instituted, the people must cede to it some of their natural rights in order to vest it with requisite powers.”
– John Jay, FEDERALIST No. 2 –

Current so-called “conservatives” may disagree, but for all legitimate purposes, conservatism is dead in this country. In its place has arisen a very dangerous, backward-looking force I will call reactionism. Let me explain the difference…

Conservatives have traditionally prided themselves on being prudent and cautious. Their aim was to keep that which has been proven to be time-worthy, and they were opposed to rash or hasty action. They took the time to analyze and study a situation before they would act.  While they were not big fans of government regulation, they nonetheless saw it as necessary to preserve order and fairness. Much of this changed during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Heavily influenced by the advice of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics, Reagan (plus Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the UK) began to dismantle many government-run programs, deriding them as inefficient and a waste of taxpayer money. Reagan couldn’t have possibly been more wrong. He obviously forgot the causes of the Great Depression, which he grew up in. Instead, he and Thatcher embraced the crazy theories of Friedman, which held that “the market” was “self-correcting” and should not be interfered with in any way.  Unfortunately, both leaders were successful in implementing a new policy of neoliberalism, which minimized the power of government and also of workers and labor unipns –  the only mechanism for exerting any economic leverage and leveling of the economic playing field whatsoever. To the detriment of economic fairness and justice, this led to a huge spike in corporatism, with scores of giant, corporate mergers and the unfortunate gobbling-up of many smaller businesses. Whereas previous conservatives placed a great deal of value upon the notion of competition in business, thse new corporatist neoliberal fools adopted an “anything goes” and “profits before people” operating methodology (which, incidentally, is akin to modern libertarian philosophy). By rolling back government’s power to regulate business, and by vastly weakening the strength of labor, these 3 very misguided people laid the foundation for our current record wealth disparity. For all this nonsense about how privitization is the only answer to our problems, and that business by its very nature is far more efficient than government, I will counter with the truism that corporations and big business can be far more wasteful than are small, sole-proprietorships, limited partnerships, OR government. ANYBODY who has ever worked for a huge corporation, as I once did, wull certainly know exactly what I am talking about! Yet these modern reactionaries who errrantly refer to themselves as conservatives wish to pursue corporatism – which by its very essence is thoroughly profit-driven, monopolistic, anti-labor and anti-government. Rather than preserving that which is good and has withstood the tests of time, these rash fools are pushing to set the clock far backward to a time when there was no social safety net, no government oversight for the protection of all, and only a few giants of industry had any real economic or legislative power.

Authentic conservatives and liberals, as well as all fair-minded people, MUST be aghast with what these reactionaries are trying to do!

We are still the captives of old Reagan, Thatcher, and Friedman-era economic policies which have benefitted only the wealthy. Sneaky libertarian billionaire types                                                                                                               like the Koch brothers, the Mercers, plus their willing stooges like Speaker of the House Paul RUIN (Ryan), and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, are each trying to enslave this country and the world in a corporatist cocoon of scaled-back individual freedom and limited opportunity for average, working people. They have nearly been totally successful in turning this once land-of-the-free into a monopolistic oligarchy. The way Donald Chump has loaded his cabinet up with billionaires from Wall Street banks and has spent his entire adult life screwing contractors and unions is ample proof of this! We see a gigantic rise in far-right militias and an alarming increase in hate crimes, evidenced as recently as Memorial Day in Portland, OR, where a veteran was fatally stabbed by an alt-right, neo-Nazi intolerant moron who was yelling racial slurs to a group of young girls when this brave veteran rose to the girls’ defense.

This is NOT conservatism; nor is it libertarianism – it is utter madness. NO true conservative can stick up for behavior of this sort!

For the ideal of a libertarian dream amounts to a realistic economic nightmare for all of the rest of us who comprise the 99% MAJORITY of the population! That is why, beginning in 2018 and continuing through the next several election cycles, we must UNITE and throw out ALL of these libertarian Republican monopolists! They are a sneaky, secretive gypup of billionaires whose aim is to enslave and exploit workers in America and abroad. They set up and finance far-right “think tanks” and supposed charitable foundations like The Heritage Foundation, ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council), and the extremely sordid Bradley Foundation (more on this odious group in a future post). We must RESIST and REPLACE these deluded, bought-out scoundrels with honorable, unselfish, civic-minded individuals who do NOT subscribe to the existing and exceedingly bankrupt reactionary theories which have stagnated our buying power for nearly 40 years now.

We have been deluded by these newer, libertarian style reactionaries into believing we are being led by “conservatives.” Face it, people: Conservative Government in this country has been replaced bt corporatist, libertarian bandits who will say or do anything to obtain and keep power. They hate government and have no regard at all for any of us!

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.
