“Two wrongs don’t make a right.”
– Common sense wisdom –

I watched the President this past week as he reacted with justified horror to Syrian President Assad’s chemical weapons attack which killed so many of his own people. It showed that Donald Trump does indeed have a heart. He vowed that the U.S. might go it alone in dealing with the problem of Assad’s butchery. Sure enough, after notifying the Russians (but neglecting to inform our own Congress), Trump ordered a massive 59 cruise missile attack on the Syrian air force’s airfields. I began to wonder exactly what Trump was thinking to have ordered such an overreactive attack. The cynic in me thought that  his order would certainly help boost his record-low poll ratings. He undoubtedly calculated that his move would be seen as a chief executive firmly and decisively in command, and one who would punish that evil, murderous Assad – all of which would be popular throughout the country. The cynic in me also thought that Trump was actively tryimg to deflect what will prove to be a devastating, if not fatal, probe into whether or not his election campaign had colluded with the Russians to defeat Hillary Clinton. I guess only time will tell…

We have grown accustomed to seeing rash and reckless behavior from this President. Though many partisan flag-wavers will disagree, this action by Trump in Syria fits that mold perfectly. After all, previous Presidents always notified congressional seniors prior to taking such bold military action. Not Chump, though – the only ones he notified were the Russians who occupy a good deal of Syria. Then he went ahead, on his own, to order the deployment of a huge dose of American firepower, as though only he mattered and nobody else. I began to see him as behaving like a caged animal would: as congressional probes were closing in, he decided to lash out using American military might. Assad is definitely a war criminal for the gassing of his own people. That is undeniable and unforgivable. He will be dealt with severely in the future for his deeds. But I believe Chump was wrong to order such massive retaliation. Two wrongs do NOT make a right, and, while the ability of the Syrian forces to attack their own people has been strongly curtailed, Chump’s action did NOT bring Assad to justice, nor did it defeat him, nor did it ensure a victorious American pullout from long term military entanglements in the Middle East. Trump’s action may have satisfied his need for bravado, but it did little for future American security in the world.

This is a very reckless and dangerous man who should be removed from office as soon as possible!

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.

Hi Jack, I hope you’re jesting about Trump’s heart. The whole empathy act about the Syrian babies was a bunch of crap from someone who doesn’t give a rat’s a__ about anyone but himself and his extensions! V

Thanks, Val. I tend to think it was more of a show of force designed to impress the visiting Chinese premier more than providing a lesson to Assad, plus I’m also sure he did it to increase his record low rating with voters. We are, unfortunately, stuck with an extreme narcissist for the foreseeable future…we must NEVER make such a mistake again!
