Aug. 4, 2016  By Jack Jodell.

We have all known liars in our lives. I knew a few in school I would unhesitatingly refer to as chronic liars. They would overemphasize, distort, misinterpret, and fabricate so many falsehoods that some of us began to question their sanity. In the realms of business and politics,  lies are rampant – even expected. Our culture is permeated with lying, from the advertisements we see vastly overstating a product’s benefits to the myth of uncertainty being constantly fed to women that they’re too fat, too thin, too plain, too wrinkled, too flat-chested, too wide at the hips, and on and on and on, ad nauseam.

In politics, I always thought Richard Nixon was the consummate liar (although his predecessor LBJ told quite a few whoppers himself). But then came the Ronald Reagan administration, which told us that tax cuts for the wealthy would free up their money so they would be able to create a huge number of good-paying jobs: that the “trickle down” effect would reach all of those below them on the income scale. Needless to say, it didn’t. Then came Bill Clinton, who, misled by prominent congressional Republicans of his day, assured us that signing NAFTA into law would reap gigantic benefits and lots of new jobs for American workers. It didn’t, obviously. He also was misled by many of these same Republicans  into repealing a number of important regulations, the biggest of which was the Glass-Steagall Act, which gave giant Wall Street banks free rein to recklessly speculate. This, of course, led to the horrible financial collapse  (The “Great Recession”) of 2008, which many correctly argue that we have never fully recovered from. Then came the trio of George W. Bush, DICK Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld. They were shameless and nearly constant in their lying us into war, and then about renditioning terrorist suspects, torturing them, and forcibly imprisoning them without a trial. Then came the pair known as Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann. They latched onto the massive Koch brothers-sponsored lie known as the Tea Party and told such outrageous lies that they defied all logic. I thought we would never top them, but next came Mitt Romney. And, unbelievably, after him, came Ted Cruz. He Pinocchio Trump Rfully deserved the moniker “Lyin’ Ted.” I thought we would surely never be able to top that guy, but then along came DONALD TRUMP, the biggest and most notorious liar of them all! Trump has lied so frequently, so outrageously, and so willfully and brazenly that he has become the standard-bearer for all future liars.

When I was much younger, there was a popular rock novelty song called “Liar Liar.” A Minneapolis group called The Castaways reached no. 12 on the national charts with it in 1965, and it was based on the legend of Pinocchio, whose nose would grow each time he told a lie. The lyrics to this song went, “Liar Liar, pants on fire / Your nose is longer than a telephone wire…”  (It aired about the same time The Beatles’ Yesterday was a hit, and I believe you can still hear it by going to YouTube). Several PANTS ON FIREelections ago, there arose a fact finding site called PolitiFact which began to analyze  the statements made by public figures and politicians as to how truthful or false they are. Their categories range from True to Mostly true to Half True to Mostly False to False to PANTS ON FIRE. Out of curiosity, I visited the Donald Trump file over at PolitiFact to see what I could find. Not too surprisingly, I found an incredible amount of Mostly False, False, and PANTS ON FIRE listings after his statements, dating back for many years. The exact breakdown for his file was: only 4% True, 11% Mostly True, 15$ Half True, 15% MOSTLY FALSE, a whopping 37% FALSE, and an unbelievable 18% PANTS ON FIRE! (His opponent, Hillary Clinton, has these rankings: 22% True, 28% Mostly True, 21% Half True, 14% Mostly False, 11% False, and only 2% Pants On Fire – just in case you were wondering. I noticed, too, that Bernie Sanders had ZERO  % Pants On Fire – for what it’s worth). A number of Trump’s biggest lies are listed below. My comments follow each of  them in italics. See how many of them you can remember:

PINOCCHIO TRUMP L“We don’t know anything about Hillary in terms of religion. Now, she’s been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there’s no — there’s nothing out there.”
— PolitiFact National on Friday, June 24th, 2016
I guess being a lifelong Methodist
constitutes “nothing out there,” hey, Donnie boy?

Pinocchio Trump ROn gift taking, “Bob McDonnell took a fraction of what (Tim) Kaine took.”
— PolitiFact Virginia on Sunday, July 24th, 2016
A pure LIE! The two figures should be REVERSED!

PINOCCHIO TRUMP L“I don’t know anything about David Duke.”
— PolitiFact National on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016
Then how could you have disavowed him two days before, Trump? That’s what happens when you talk out of both sides of your mouth, Trump!

Pinocchio Trump R

Under the Iran deal: “If Israel attacks Iran … we’re supposed to be on Iran’s side.”
— PolitiFact Virginia on Friday, September 4th, 2015
ntrue, and shows how little Trump knows (or even cares about) important foreign policy issues!

PINOCCHIO TRUMP L“Don’t believe those phony numbers when you hear 4.9 and 5 percent unemployment. The number’s probably 28, 29, as high as 35. In fact, I even heard recently 42 percent.”
— PolitiFact National on Thursday, February 11th, 2016
Kind of makes you wonder exactly who has been feeding Trump these ridiculous figures (if anyone else is actually doing so), doesn’t it?

Pinocchio Trump RCommon Core is “education through Washington D.C.”
— PolitiFact National on Thursday, March 10th, 2016
Typical anti-federal government lie that many Republicans like to make. Actually, it is the STATES, and the states alone, who choose take part in this, or to not do so. Washington has no say whatsoever.

PINOCCHIO TRUMP L“The Mexican government forces many bad people into our country.”
— PolitiFact National on Thursday, July 9th, 2015
What a load of bull! It was actually NAFTA, so heavily favored and pushed all by Republican President George H.W. Bush, Democratic President Bill Clinton, and congressional Republicans which ruined many Mexican border farmers and forced them to flee into our country. The Mexican government had nothing to do with it! This Trump attempt to pit Americans against Mexican immigrants is despicable!

Pinocchio Trump R“The Obama administration was actively supporting Al Qaeda in Iraq, the terrorist group that became the Islamic State.”
— PolitiFact National on Wednesday, June 15th, 2016
This is a treacherous LIE in that the U.S. has ALWAYS opposed Al Qaeda and similar Islamic terrorist groups! After all, wasn’t it the Obama administration which hunted down and eventually killed Osama Bin Laden?

PINOCCHIO TRUMP L“The people that went to school with (Barack Obama), they never saw him, they don’t know who he is.”
— PolitiFact National on Monday, February 14th, 2011
This nonsense comes from Trump’s “birther” period, when he was doing all he could to cast doubt on Obama’s citizenship. I remember seeing MANY of Obama’s former classmates reminiscing about their time at school with him. What a stubborn, ignorant fool Trump is!

Pinocchio Trump RThe five Guantanamo detainees swapped for Bowe Bergdahl are “back on the battlefield.”
— PolitiFact National on Sunday, January 10th, 2016
This is a VERY
reckless statement from one who is obviously CLUELESS about diplomacy and Middle East affairs: the five are still in Qatar, an ally of ours! Fear mongering and rabble rousing like this are NOT behavioral traits acceptable in a legitimate presidential candidate!

PINOCCHIO TRUMP L“Look, we are at war with these people and they don’t wear uniforms. … This is a war against people that are vicious, violent people, that we have no idea who they are, where they come from. We are allowing tens of thousands of them into our country now.”
— PolitiFact National on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016
Trump has absolutely no idea what he is talking about, hates needy refugees, and is totally inadequate for the job of running our foreign policy. Stop faking, Trump, and quit insulting our intelligence!

Pinocchio Trump R“I watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering” as the World Trade Center collapsed.
— Donald Trump on Saturday, November 21st, 2015 in comments during a speech
This is a LIE and an absolute insult to anyone who had anything to do with the horrendous attacks during 9/11! NOBODY bit Trump remembers “thousands and thousands of people” cheering in NJ at that time – this is a heartless vicious lie
conceited for some unknown but definitely sinister Trump purpose, and proves beyond the shadow of all doubt that this man is NOT fit to serve as President of the United States in ANY capacity!

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.
