HAPPY HILLARY ACCEPTSThe Democratic Party wound up their 2016 nominating convention last night on a strong note. In doing so, they achieved a notable historic first for one of America’s major political parties:  they nominated a woman, Hillary Clinton, to be their candidate for President of the United States. This ended up being one of many successive firsts for the party. In 1984, they nominated the first woman for vice president (Geraldine Ferraro, who was defeated); in 2000, they nominated the first Jewish person, Sen. Joe Lieberman, for the vice presidency, and he lost; in 2008, they nominated and were able to elect, and then, 4 years later, RE-elect, the nation’s first African-American President in Barack Obama; and now this year Hillary Clinton was nominated to hopefully be elected the first female President on November 8.

Despite some early vigorous  opposition and demonstrations by delegates supporting Bernie Sanders for President, the convention went amazingly smoothly and eventually came to broadly support their new nominee.  Hillary and her devotees amassed a large number of prominent supporters to speak on her behalf and to help present a strong case against her Republican BLOOMBERGopponent, Donald Trump. Self-made billionaire and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg shattered the myth Trump has concocted about his supposed business acumen by pointing out that he believes Trump to be a “risky, reckless, and radical choice.” Bloomberg backed this up by saying, “Trump has left behind a well-documented record of bankruptcies and thousands of lawsuits and angry shareholders and contractors who feel cheated, and disillusioned customers who feel ripped off.” He then added, “Trump says he wants to run the nation like he runs his business. God help us…truth be told, the richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy.”

LEONFormer CIA Director Leon Pancetta chipped in about Trump’s having called out to the Russian government to hack into our State Department files to find 30,000 missing Clinton emails which Trump believes would show her to be guilty of criminal actions by saying, “You’ve got now a presidential candidate who is in fact asking the Russians to engage in American politics and I just think that’s beyond the pale.” He added, “I have a lot of concerns of his qualities of leadership or lack thereof. That kind of statement only reflects the fact that he truly is not qualified to be president of the United States.” Well, Pancetta should certainly know, having worked directly with several different Presidents over the years!

obama 2016Even current two-term President Barack Obama felt it necessary to extol the virtues of Hillary and warn about the dangers of electing Donald Trump. He said, “You know, nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the Oval Office. You can read about it. You can study it. But until you’ve sat at that desk, you don’t know what it’s like to manage a global crisis, or send young people to war. But Hillary has been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions. She knows what’s at stake in the decisions our government makes — what’s at stake for the working family, for the senior citizen, or the small business owner, for the soldier, for the veteran. And even in the midst of crisis, she listens to people, and she keeps her cool, and she treats everybody with respect. And no matter how daunting the odds, no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever quits…youHATE-FILLED DONALD TRUMP know, the Donald is not really a plans guy.  He’s not really a facts guy, either. He calls himself a business guy, which is true, but I have to say, I know plenty of businessmen and women who’ve achieved remarkable success without leaving a trail of lawsuits, and unpaid workers, and people feeling like they got cheated. Does anyone really believe that a guy who’s spent his 70 years on this Earth showing no regard for working people is suddenly going to be your champion?…But if you’re someone who’s truly concerned about paying your bills, if you’re really concerned about pocketbook issues and seeing the economy grow, and creating more opportunity for everybody, then the choice isn’t even close. If you want someone with a lifelong track record of fighting for higher wages, and better benefits, and a fairer tax code, and a bigger voice for workers, and stronger regulations on Wall Street, then you should vote for Hillary Clinton.”

Clinton herself delivered a very effective acceptance speech. She contrasted her lifetime of seeing others, especially children, the poor, and the disabled,  with her opponent’s lifetime of filling his own pockets for himself and stiffing his workers and contractors in the process. Whereas Trump not too long ago actually made fun of a reporter who was handicapped, Clinton actually drew attention to and praised a young woman in a wheelchair with cerebral palsy. somoza at dncThe difference between Trump and Clinton, as well as their respective parties, could not be starker  The hope and joy I saw on women’s faces, especially teen-aged girls in attendance, was a joy to behold.  One 16 year old summed it all up perfectly by saying, “This is more than I ever could have imagined,… I know that I have just lived history and I can follow in her footsteps. This changes my entire life.” The exact opposite of this was seen last week at the Republican convention. There, hate-laden voices repeatedly shouting “Lock her up!” did nothing to convince me that Trump or any of them had much of substance to offer this country.

The fact that Hillary Clinton has moderated her stances on globalism, paired with her lifetime of commitment to serving those around her, have convinced me that SHE is the one who should be elected President – NOT the blowhard bigmouth bully Donald Trump. Her commitment to togetherness and to appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn that horrid Citizens United decision have convinced me that she has turned a very important corner. That is why I am now urging EVERYBODY to elect Hillary Clinton President!

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.
