“People in the know all are completely opposed to the TPP!”
– Jack Jodell –

For many months I have railed against our adoption of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and other, similar bogus corporate-inspired trade deals. I have done so on a generalized basis. With today’s post, however, I will begin an intermittent series dealing with specific reasons as to why this proposed trade pact is so odious to the overwhelming majority of Americans and dangerous as well. As a proclaimed progressive, dedicated to economic fairness and one who is opposed to, and indeed HATES, all forms of corporate greed, I feel compelled to use this blog to fight this utterly horrible and deceitful concoction! So today I begin this intermittent series so that you will be made aware of just how destructive and dangerous our participation in this farce will be, and why we must prevent its adoption at all costs!

STOP TPPFirst and foremost, many of you may have never even heard of this TPP arrangement. Why? Because there has been a nearly universal blackout of information on it tn our corporate-owned, mass media which overwhelmingly supports its adoption. They have instead chosen to drown us in worthless non-news garbage and spectacle to distract and prevent us from knowing the full truth. This is because they know full well that if the general public were to be made aware of its implications, mass riots would occur. This is no wild-eyed radical rant by me. Consider this: WHY was this proposal drawn up over many years by foreign and domestic corporate heads and was done so in                                                                                   SECRET?  WHY was the attempt made to rush it through Congress with very minimal debate? Shouldn’t the adoption of such a wide-ranging agreement be debated thoroughly and intensely? WHY would the adoption of this wretched proposal cost American taxpayers MILLIONS of dollars   and result in greater unemployment and a further reduction in our standard of living? DON’T WE,AS CITIZENS AND TAXPAYERS, HAVE THE RIGHT TOKNOW ALL ASPECTS OF THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE OUR GOVERNMENTT PASSES IT?

CORP FLAGNow what exactly IS the TPP? It is promoted as an example of “free trade economics”. It is anything but free, though – it amounts to a huge corporate giveaway that could legally tie its member nations in a crippling economic noose for all time. It is a  trade pact which excludes China but includes all the other major Pacific rim countries such as Canada, Mexico, the United States, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Chile, Peru, Malaysia, aSingapore, and Japan, with Colombia, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines also expressing interest in joining. It was drawn up in secret by many corporate leaders from these countries over a period of 7 years, beginning in 2008. If approved by all of these nations, it would represent a joining of 40% of the entire global economy. That’s all fine and good, as trade between nations is desirable and often reduces the risk of war between them. But in the case of this trade pact, the devil most definitely lies in the details. For example, this agreement  would allow one member country to sue another for anticipated monetary losses should the country being sued enact any law which would reduce the profits of a corporation in the country suing it. This would effectively negate any legislation passed by any member nation to protect its workers’ rights, workers’ safety, or that country’s environment. Worse yet, the “offending” country would be judged by a 3-person panel composed of corporate attorneys appointed by officers of the TPP governing body, and, if found “guilty”, the offending country would be held liable to the suing country for monetary damages! Put more simply, let’s say the U.S. were to enact some type of law or regulation prohibiting fishing a number of miles off its shoreline. Some overzealous Japanese, Korean, Philippine  or Vietnamese fishing conglomerate could legally sue the U.S. for anticipated lost profits, and, if ruled against by that corporate tribunal,  U.S. taxpayers would have to pay millions and perhaps BILLIONS of dollars to that foreign conglomerate! UNBELIEVABLE! Have you ever heard of such utter lunacy? Even if not found guilty, laws legally enacted by U.S. legislators for the protection of our country and its resources would effectively be nullified. That amounts to an unthinkable surrender of our sovereignty. Why, then, even have a U.S. government at all? Irrefutably preposterous! This may help to explain why this pact was drawn up secretly – nobody in their right mind would ever approve of such a disastrous proposal, unless they had been bought out beforehand or would stand to profit immensely themselves from such compliance! 😦

Thumbs-down-iconcrooked cashMillions of people worldwide are starting to see the dangers of such a surrender to corporate power, and they are raising complete hell about it! Of course, you never see this featured on our corporate-owned mainstream media, for their owners approve of this putrid pact.

As stated above, people in the know are all opposed to the adoption of the TPP. According to Democratic Underground.com, 1 million anti-TPP messages have been delivered to Congress. Labor leaders  such as AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka have stated “The TPP agreement is toxic, and the American people are not buying it. Working people are determined to end the era of corporate trade deals that lower our wages  and kill our jobs. To all those on the ballot in 2016, we have a simple message: either you’re with us or against us.” Rep. Tulsi Gabbard D-HI} says, “The American people have been left out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership from the beginning and the results show. From an ISDS process that allows foreign corporations to overrule our domestic rule of law, to unenforceable labor and environmental protections, to no protections against currency manipulation, this deal helps the corporate class while selling out working Americans and their families. The American people deserve a better future that empowers our middle class and domestic economy; that protects people and our planet,”

obama angryVery regrettably, President Obama has sided with a large number of congressional Republicans to urge quick passage of this rotten deal. His rationale is that it would stem the growing tide of Chinese economic power and influence on the world stage, This blogger disputes that viewpoint; believes it to be a case of “too little-too late”: and that there are far more suitable methods to keep China’s economic growth in check. As this series continues I will identify those methods as well as shine a bright light on other specific dangers adoption of the TPP has within it, and why we must oppose its adoption with all the might we can muster!

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.
