Sept. 17, 2015 By Jack Jodell.
Increasingly over the years, I have come to greatly appreciate and value reliably consistent news sources. One of which I have written glowingly about many times, and will continue doing so, is FREE SPEECH TV. I view them as a great and priceless national treasure which must be sustained and made even more accessible to the general public. For FSTV fearlessly and relentlessly exposes corporate scandals and the lies which lead us into war, repression, pollution. climate change, homelessness, discrimination, recession, poverty, voter suppression, unemployment, corruption, and many other undesirable aspects of our modern society. It does this by providing informative and revealing programming such as documentaries and great nuggets of in-depth investigative journalism, both of which have sadly all but disappeared from today’s corporate-controlled media. BEST OF ALL, this network is commercial-free and is supported fully by its viewers. By going to http://www.freespeech.org/ you will see for yourselves what I am writing about.
Just like you and I, FSTV requires regular doses of nourishment to survive. Rather than ingesting food, it is sustained by viewers’ contributions. Just as we eat 3 or 4 meals each day, FSTV has pledge drives 4 times each year – one per season. They have just now begun their Fall Pledge Drive. Whereas mainstream television networks get their funds through constant advertising and continual commercial interruptions of their shows to remain profitable so as to please their shareholders, FSTV accepts NO money whatsoever from oil billionaires like the Koch Brothers, corporations, businesses, banks, professional organizations, or satellite or cable companies. As such, its sole shareholders are US – its viewers. Because it is beholden to NO commercial entities at all, that is why FSTV is free to present all the news through an incredibly unfiltered eye. These range from DVDs to books to t-shirts to teddy bears to baseball caps to tote bags to political buttons to hooded sweatshirts to coffee mugs to stocking caps to meet and greets with various FSTV show hosts, plus much, MUCH more!
Here are some of the shows on FSTV which you should not and cannot afford to miss:
Ring of Fire with Mike Papantonio – Fondly called “America’s Lawyer” for the fantastic job he does in revealing corporate scandals that adversely affect we 99%ers, nobody takes a back seat to this guy or his staff in protecting American consumers from corporate scoundrels. Democracy Now! with the award-winning Amy Goodman. Sherlock Holmes would be hard-pressed to out-sleuth this amazing and seasoned veteran investigative journalist. She boldly goes where few others dare to go today, and conducts interesting and revealing interviews with some of the most intelligent people, from all fields, on the planet today! My personal favorite, and a man so popular among progressives that he has not one, but two shows on FSTV, is Thom Hartmann. This gentleman is a skilled debater; knows his facts; and is not at all afraid to engage conservative and/or reactionary Republicans in discussion or debate. Mornings and early afternoons he can be heard in a radio call-in format on The Thom Hartmann Program, and in the evening, we are treated to The Big Picture with Thom Hartmann, a show which features lots of civil debate and some incredible guests. For a lot of thigh-slapping political humor every morning, (and great political commentary as well), The Stephanie Miller Show will fit the bill for you perfectly. The comments she and her guests offer up will certainly bring a chuckle or an uproarious outburst with gales of laughter for you! She often has hilarious calls-in from the likes of Karl Frisch, John Fugelsang, and the Rude Pundit, plus cameos by the gorgeous Jody Hamilton. Speaking of gorgeous, you definitely won’t want to miss the new show called Act Out! The young and beautiful activist Eleanor Goldfield (lead singer of the driving rock band Rooftop Revolutionaries) interviews other activists, gives her blunt assessments of current events and people in the news, and sometimes treats us to a song or some of her very insightful poetry.David Pakman is another young progressive hosting his own show. He is a very gifted analyst of politics, and his show is often quite enlightening. A newcomer to FSTV, but a decade-long experienced show host on progressive radio is Indian-born Sonali Kolhatkar. Her show Uprising with Sonali provides us with numerous interesting guests and keen insights into current political and economic events, both domestic and worldwide. The Bill Press Show starts off FSTV’s day, starring veteran journalist and commentator Bill Press. The Nation magazine has called it the most important talk show on morning radio, and the video portion is simulcast on FSTV.
In addition to these great programs, FSTV slso offers awesome documentaries. End of the Road: How Money Became Worthless reveals how Richard Nixon’s decision to abandon the gold standard way back in 1971 has resulted in the world adopting Fiat currency and has led to the debasement of many currencies (including our own); Groundswell Rising shows the horrible effect fracking has had on the health and property of numerous people who happened to live near its drilling sites; The Prosecution of an American President features famed author and prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi presenting the specific whys and hows former President George W. Bush could and should be tried for war crimes for having lied us into the very costly and bloody Iraq War; and Four Horsemen clearly examines exactly how the 2008 global financial crisis came about. Rather than finger pointing, it shows how we can all build a better and more equitable future by not repeating those mistakes. These are but a few of the many thought-provoking films you will see only on FREE SPEECH TV – there are easily dozens more!
Think about it, readers: where else can you regularly see and hear brilliant minds like Naomi Klein, Julian Assange, Lawrence Wilkerson, Kshama Sawant, Noam Chomsky, Edward Snowden, Robert Reich, and even Bernie Sanders? FSTV doesn’t waste time on shallow media freaks and blowhards like Donald Trump or Hollywood darlings like Kim Kardashian. Instead, it presents people and ideas bearing substance which offer positive, forward-looking solutions for the problems we now face and will face in the future. THAT is why I consider FREE SPEECH TV to be such a rich national treasure we cannot afford to lose!
