Aug. 27, 2015  By Jack Jodell.

I have had several recurrent and ongoing thoughts I will share with you in this brief post, along with some very relevant quotes I have picked up recently.

Our woefully unproductive Congress should give all of us in the 99% MAJORITY an immediate MASSIVE tax refund for all the time and the  millions of taxpayer dollars they have WASTED on non-productive and worthless committee hearings and investigations which have been held during the past two sessions. These exhibits of blatantly partisan grandstanding have yielded absolutely nothing of any value whatsoever.

Here’s an idea: we should fine every single Congressperson $1,000 for each day they only put in 3 or 4 days (instead of the normal 5 which has been the standard for working people for decades) while Congress is officially in sMUD RYANsession. I don’t care whether it would take a presidential executive order to achieve this, but something MUST be done to ensure that Congress is no longer a group of slackers getting paid $175,000 or more annually for working 9nly part-time! The money should be turned over to the U.S. Treasury to increase funding for Social Security benefits and for Medicare. This 3 day work week is an absolute insult to all business owners and to every worker in this country, and it must come to a screeching halt! Let’s see these phony deficit hawks like Paul Ryan object to THAT!

There are those, particularly in the Tea Party-infested, now reactionary Republican Party, who insist that our government be run like a business.  Of course, those of us living in the real world know how absurd a notion that is. For, as an anonymous caller to the Stephanie Miller show I saw back on Aprilfree speech 6 noted so perfectly, “Business USES people to make money. Government uses MONEY to help PEOPLE.”  Those who want to continually cut government spending and make everyone but billionaires to live on a forced austerity budget (like the notorious reactionary Paul Ryan has been trying to implement) are equally ridiculous and wrong in their belief. As noted progressive radio commentator THOMand FREE SPEECH TV show host Thom Hartmann has observed quite often, “Never in the history of the world has anyone cut their way to prosperity!” Still, there are millions of fools who believe that austerity budgets are the only way to go. We’ll nrver convince these morons, so we’ll just have to ccept P.T. Barnum’s adage that “there’s a sucker born every minute.” Poor imbeciles- it’s really too bad that they are being allowed to make so many people’s lives so miserable!

As I view the list of prospective candidates for President in 2016 from all parties, especially those with any real chance of winning, I see absolutely NONE in the Republican Party and very few worth voting for in the Democratic Party. While Martin O’Malley holds a few attractive positions, I BIDENdon’t believe he has a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving the primary season and winning the general election. I don’t even consider Jim Webb or Lincoln Chafee to have any viability at all. That leaves only Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, or Bernie Sanders as potential Democratic winners. While I like Biden in many areas, I think he is joining the fray far too late and would never HILLARY R 1be able to overcome the following already built by his rivals. As for Clinton, she has already amassed a formidable stockpile of funds, but I really don’t believe she can extricate herself from her ties with Wall Street enough to really deliver for the 99% MAJORITY who desprtately needs help. Not only that, but she is always seemingly swimming in tidal waves of negative controversy. I have no doubt that she would be fully capable for the job, and recognize how important it would be for us to finally elect a woman President, but I still believe BERNIE SANDERSSANDERS would be best for the overwhelming majority of the country. He has proposed fabulous and much-needed projrcts to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and has also proposed a very fair and sensible overhaul of our tax system. Both plans would stimulate our economy, produce greatly needed, good-paying jobs, and would reverse the horrible wealth disparity which has risen steadily since the 1980s. THAT is what America needs right now and heading into the future, so THAT is why Bernie Sanders remains my choice for President in 2016!

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.

A 3 day work week! If they are going to work 60% of the time (and that number is probably high), they should get only 60% of their pay.

I like Bernie too, and with the clowns that the republicans are putting up, he might be able to win. The only other real democratic choice is Clinton and she qualifies as a moderate republican.

I like Bernie too. But everything he proposes would be shot down by the left and the right. He has no natural allies in Congress and his job as president would be incredibly frustrating. Do you think Obama had it tough? At least he has some allies to help get legislation passed. Look at the Affordable care act. The public option was shot down by Democrats like Jim Webb. I’m amazed that we got anything passed. And just how long would it take for the left in this country to lose faith in Bernie? Based on President Obama, I would say about 2 years or less. The left is constantly looking for the next savior and is always so disappointed when the world doesn’t change immediately. If Bernie were elected, I am sure that his most ardent followers would be calling for his head before very long.
Politics is not a short game. This President has played the game as best as he could. He has many victories over time, but he lost the support of many on the left because those victories took too long to materialize. There is no quick fix. It takes years of work to make any change a reality. The unfortunate thing is that some on the left are so quick to abandon their leaders and begin the search for the next “progressive superperson”, that they forget about the immediate battle.
I would be thrilled if Bernie were to become President, but I know for a fact that it wouldn’t be very long before the blogs would be filled with people calling him a failure and sellout, and sitting on their hands when the mid term elections roll around.
As always, keep up the good work. I keep on meaning to show up and chime in on Sundays, but for some reason or other I miss the opportunity. Sandy is coming for a visit this week, so hopefully we can both contribute this weekend. Say hello to Gwen for me.
And keep the faith, my friend.

GREAT hearing from you again, Mike, and thanks for the usual, well-thought-out points. I hope you and Sandy DO find a way to regularly reactivate, as the world needs you both, now more than ever! Glad you’ve managed to keep the faith, old friend. You and Sandy are always welcome here! 🙂
