POLITICAL QUOTES TO REMEMBER

Oct.31, 2013  By Jack Jodell.

Happy Halloween, everybody! The shenanigans coming out of Washington these days are pretty scary. Some may think all this grandstanding and infighting is a relatively recent phenomenon, but that is not the case. As you will see from a number of the quotes below, many of which were gathered over a long period of time and some even from other countries, the political spectacle we have been seeing recently is actually rather commonplace.

The first several quotes come from a wide range of sources, each of which has been credited. Some are thigh-slappingly hilarious. The rest of the quotes come from the incredible Will Rogers, whose keen and witty insight and wisdom graced the nation’s media from the 1920s through the 1930s. Enjoy, dear readers!

“Politics – a strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.”
– Ambrose Bierce –

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
– Friedrich Nietzsche –

The reason there are so few female politicians is that it is too much trouble to put makeup on two faces.”
– Maureen Murphy –

“Legislators don’t have enough sense to think for themselves – they let ALEC do it!”
– Mike Papantonio –

“I think it’s about time we voted for senators with breasts.  After all, we’ve
been voting for boobs long enough.”
– Clarie Sargent –

Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.”
– George Jean Nathan –

” If we got one-tenth of what was promised to us in these acceptance speeches there wouldn’t be any inducement to go to heaven.”

“A president just can’t make much showing against congress. They lay awake nights, thinking up things to be against the president on.”

“When you straddle a thing it takes a long time to explain it.”

Congress is so strange; a man gets up to speak and says nothing, nobody listens, and then everybody disagrees.”

“A politician is not as narrow-minded as he forces himself to be.”

“… you got to admit that each party is worse than the
other.”

“There’s no trick being a humorist when you have the entire government working for you.”

“Politics has got so expensive, that it takes a lot of money to even get beat wuth nowadays.”

“Ancient Rome declined because it had a Senate; now what’s going to happen to us with both a Senate and a House?”

“So cheer up. Let’s all be friends again. One of the evils of democracy is you have to put up with the man you elect whether you want him or not. That’s why we call it democracy.”

“One wants recovery to start from the bottom, and the other wants it to start from the top. I don’t know which is right. I’ve never heard of anybody suggesting that they might start it in the middle, so I hereby make that suggestion, to start recovery halfway between the two, because it’s the middle class that does everything anyhow.”

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.
