This week, as you know, the now reactionary, Tea Party-infested Republican Party, led by a very smug and defiant Texas Senator named Ted Cruz, and a weak-kneed Speaker of the House named John Boehner, voted to shut down the federal government in an unsuccessful and disjointed, poorly-defined attempt to stop the Affordable Care Act of 2010 from being implemented. This meant a sudden and immediate furlough without pay for 825,000 federal employees and threatened the well-being of millions of other innocent Americans, from children kicked off the Head Start program to the elerly and sick who are now unfairly deprived of beneficial programs like Meals on Wheels. There was an incredible and thoroughly disgusting amount of political grandstanding by these government-hating Teabagger extremists. They all tried to brazenly blame the President for this shutdown, an attempt which shall live in infamy. Some even castigated Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for not supporting their preposterous demands.
Teabagger extremists like Texas Rep. Randy Neugebauer viciously verbally attacked a Park Ranger in full view of TV cameras for merely doing her job in preventing some visiting veterans from entering the now-closed World War II memorial, even though it was the stupid son of a bitch Neugebauer himself who voted to close down the government, including even national parks and national monuments! Other insane and mouthy Teabagger morons like Michele Bachmann were giddy and actually joyful at the government being closed down. She, of course, cares about nobody but herself, unless she is in full view of TV cameras. Then and only then will she feign concern for veterans and others, if she smells it is politically advantageous for her to do so.
Though their far-lesser-paid staff have all been put on furlough during this shutdowm, and even though the GOP-controlled House has failed to pass even ONE significant piece of legislation into law this session, the overwhelming majority of them are still collecting their own paychecks, from Democratic House member Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to Teapublican Senator Ted Cruz. This is an insult to every single taxpayer in this country! These deadbeats have accomplished virtually nothing of value this entire term; have wasted thousands of hours and millions of taxpayer dollars on meaningless, insignificant votes; have neglected the poor and needy; have accepted huge donations from corporate lobbyists whose interests are often far apart from those of their actual constituents; and, while many have voted to shut down the government, they still think they are entitked to a taxpayer-funded paycheck of nearly $175,000 apiece! Are these people CRAZY? No, the sad fact is that they are completely out of touch with how the average citizen lives and exactly what that citizen wants, needs, and deserves! Over half of Congress are millionaires who simply don’t know or don’t even care about the struggles of the average citizen. I’ve said it before and I will continue to shout out that these self-serving, ignorant, and crporate-corrupted politicians must be thrown out of office and replaced with progressive, truly civic-minded and forward-looking public servants.
It is time for Congress to realize that their bloated nearly $175,000 annual paycheck is not an entitlement. but is rather something they must EARN!
