“This economy can go on no longer…because it has become absolutely criminal…this economic model is killing more people in the world than all the armies put together.”
– Chilean Economist Manfred Max-Neef –
I had the distinct pleasure of learning about several possible major economic modifications to the horribly omjust economic system called capitalism which currently dominates the entire globe. Both came courtesy of programs I viewed on FREE SPEECH TV, the commercial-free, independent television network which consistently presents intelligent, thought-provoking programming.
The first was a response by the very sharp Thom Hartmann to the recent senseless murders of 12 innocent civilian worlers by deranged gunman Aaron Alexis at a Naval facility in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hartmann brilliantly proposed that all current and would-be future gun owners be registered. licensed, and required to have liability insurance which would be payable to anyone injured by, or to a victim’s family in the event of them being murdered by, said gun owner’s gun. He equated it to what automobile drivers must have before they can legally drive, and he advocated having very stiff penalties for those who didn’t comply. The genius of this simple plan still amazes me as I write this.
The second was a pair of enthralling interviews Democracy Now!‘s host, Amy Goodman, had with both former Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich and a Chilean Economist. She interviewed Reich about his soon to be released film Inequality for All, which will be in theaters across the country starting Sept. 23, and which I highly recommend! It tells the story of the forces which led Reich to became interested in economics and government; his analyzation of how and why our economy has become so overwhelmingly slanted in favor of the wealthiest 1%, and, most crucially, lays a framework for how we, the MAJORITY 99%, can effectively take our economy back to ensure a more equal and fairer distribution of wealth going forward. She also played a clip of the Independence Day-weekend interview she did in Bogota, Colombia with noted international Chilean Economist Manfred Max-Neef . The quote you see at the top of this posting came directly from that interview. Goodman related how Prof. Max-Neef is also strongly advocating the creation of an Economic Crimes Tribunal, an idea I heartily endorse! I hope such a tribunal will definitely come about, and that it will have the same authority to try, convict, and actually sentence those found guilty that the post-World War II Nuremberg Trials had in 1946! Clearly, there are multitudes of economic criminals in banking and government throughout the world who should and must be convicted for the huge numbers of lives their piggish behavior has negatively impacted!
Again, I thank Free Speech TV for presenting these excellent programs, which inspured this post and saved me from watching the brain-stunting trash like Tickle, Happily Never After, American Idol, FOX “News”, and the hundreds of juvenile ads for Viagra, Cialis, FDS, and insurance that are typically found on commercial-laden American tetelevision 24/7!
Remember to watch for INEQUALITY FOR ALL in theaters on Sept. 23, The clips I saw in the Reich interview were outstanding!
