as seen on tvSo many of us complain about the state of American television today, and with good reason. After all, American mass media is almost totally owned and controlled by 6 huge corporations, and we all can see what that means: a steady and growing number of commercials each hour, and lots of horribly inferior, mind-dulling commercialsprogramming which does very little to raise the bar for the country’s social or political consciousness. For every C-Span or educational channel, there are literally hundreds of others on cable or satellite dealing with unneeded celebrity gossip, ridiculous “reality” shows, “he said-she said” political “debates” which go nowhere and are interrupted constantly by the need to go to yet another string of unending advertisements, or downright stupid sitcoms which appeal to the lowest common denominator. We all know it, and we are all guilty of merely channel surfing in disgust while doing very little to help solve the problem. But there is something each of us can do to help relieve ourselves of this unrelenting stream of less-than-desirable mass media programming.  The solution is a mere phone call or internet search away. expanded link tv logoIt is once again time for end of the year fundraising for the only non-corporate, totally viewer-supported television network we have today: LINK TV. This amazing network features news, international coverage, documentaries, and provocative discussions you will NEVER see on mainstream media TV channels. Lucky viewrs can find it either on DIRECTV channel 375, Dish Network channel 9410, and numerous other cable channels. It is the only source where you can consistently see great amy gchris hedgesAmerican journalists like Amy Goodman and Chris Hedges. It regularly features such profound thinkers as economist Richard D. naomi kleinWolff, Glenn Greenwald, Naomi Klein, and even Noam Chomsky, to name but a few. It is the single best source for diverse world programming, like Al Jazeera English, the popular Danish political drama Borgen, and World Music videos unavailable elsewhere here in the U.S. But most of all, I value the great knowledge I have gained through watching its tremendous stockpile of informative the world according to...documentaries and pieces of true investigative journalism, such as Heist: Who Stole the American Dream?, Koch Brothers Exposed, Inside Job, and The World According to Monsanto, among many, many other fine examples.

By going to LINK TV’s website at http://www.linktv.org/, you will see how incredibly valuable a resource this network really is. For example, where else on TV will you find Amy Goodman’s phenomenal Democracy Now!, or Explore: Detroit – the Renaissance of America, or richard wolffChris Hedges’ Days of Revolt, or Richard Wolff’s brilliant Democracy at Work – A Cure for Capitalism, or even Glenn Greenwald’s Our Civil Liberties At Risk?  Only LINK TV provides all these treasures and even more.  Since LINK TV is completely viewer supported and receives no corporate funding whatsoever, to stay alive – to continue broadcasting its speaking truth to power programming, it is vitally important that WE PROGRESSIVES contribute our monetary support to it! While funds are tight for many of us (especially at this time of year), it is crucially important that we at least do SOMETHING to keep this network on the air and enable it to keep bringing us its fabulously intelligent programming! Every $5 to $10 to $100 to $250 + contribution we can make will help tremendously! Many levels of contribution will also net you a valuable prize, ranging from LINK TV baseball caps to recorded speeches to program DVDs and more. If a big outlay at this moment isn’t good for you, consider making a small monthly pledge of $10, $25, or more. You can either donate directly on their website,  call their toll-free number of 1-866-485-8848, or mail in your pledge to:

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.

Jack you make an excellent case for a good TV channel. But for me and perhaps otherst, this is an awful time to hold its fund-raising drive, especially right after a presidential election. The Anderson household has been giving of late to worthy causes to the point of hurting. Maybe at a later date . . .

You are quite right, and for a long time I have questioned the wisdom of their holding a fundraiser at this time of year. Keep in mind, though, that donations can be made at ANY time – winter, spring, summer, or fall – and will always be appreciated, I am certain.

Hats off to you Andersons for your charitable spirit! I hope 2013 will prove to be a prosperous year for us all! 🙂

I have wondered for a long time why LINK has chosen the Christmas season for its major fundraising effort, so I will happily pass your comments on to them. Donations aren’t limited only to right now – folks can contribute anytime, and I’m sure they will be happy to get what they can when they can.

Hats off to you Andersons for your charitable spirit and for playing an activist role in civic matters! Happy holidays to all of you! 🙂
