With the Republican National Convention set to begin in earnest tomorrow, and with their blatant attempt to deny as many of the opposition’s voters the right to even cast a ballot in full sway, the thought occurred to me that I had failed to mention an important truth in my last post.

Clearly, this Tea Party / Republican effort to disenfranchise millions of elderly, minorities, liberals, progressives, students, and other potential non-Republican voters from voting is shameful and must be stopped dead in its tracks. Not only is it shameful, it is also an affront to our Declaration of Independence and all that our Founding Fathers believed in. For one of the major reasons the insurrection of 1776 which led the patriots to break away from England occurred in the first place was because the colonists objected to being taxed by the mother country without having any say in the matter. That’s right, folks: the colonists rightfully objected to taxation without representation.

Today’s reactionary, Tea Party – infested Republican Party is attempting to do what King George and his 18th Century British Parliament tried unsuccessfully: to deny those who are taxpayers a voice in the way their tax dollars are being spent. It is a hypocritical stance and a cynical way to outright steal  an election these forces of reaction don’t even deserve to win!

So don’t give us any more of this Mitt Romney / Paul RUIN lying about saving the economy or creating 12 million new jobs by cutting taxes further on the already severely -undertaxed wealthy. DON’T TREAD ON US, BRO! WE ARE THE MAJORITY 99%, ABD WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!
Take THAT, you phony, anti-democracy Tea Party – infested Republicans!

I’m frightened. With voter suppression, manipulating the Deibold machines, an naive (stupid) electorate and all the money spewing lied non-stop I am afraid we will lose. God help my children and grandchildren.

I’m with you. Should we lose, EVERYTHING the working man and woman have struggled to attain will be forcibly removed from them forever.

Aye, there’s the rub. But today’s right-wing extremists don’t see the people they’re trying to disenfranchise as taxpayers. They see them as parasites looking to get something for nothing from honest, hard-working, taxpaying citizens through the power of big government. They see them as lazy ne’er-do-wells and criminals, and as counterculture types who are undermining traditional family values and Christian morality.

One of the hallmarks of modern conservatives, whatever political label they’re wearing, is that they demonize those who oppose them and their political views and preferences. They consider them enemies, and as such it’s easy to treat them badly, unfairly, even hate them and treat them cruelly. That’s precisely why, when Ron Paul was trying to answer that question about the guy with a serious health problem and no insurance during a primary debate last winter, Republicans in the audience hollered “let him die” and others cheered and applauded.

This characteristic is also what makes right-wing extremists dangerous to other people and to our democracy. Many of them come to feel that anything that advances their cause and defeats their enemies, punishes or harms their enemies, is all right, no matter how dishonest, unfair or destructive of our institutions and political system. Anything to win is OK. IOKIYAR. Or, as the late Sen., Barry Goldwater declared at a long-ago GOP convention, “Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice!”

You hit the nail on the head. These people are anti-social, anti-democracy, anti-truth, anti-lnowledge, and anti-reality. Theirs is a world of self-centered delusion. They are pro-fear, pro-war, pro-hatred, and pro-authoritarian. They are totally incapable of governing in a democratic society. That is why they MUST be defeated in November!
