Hello everyone. Well, here we are at the end of another month, so it’s time to list this month’s collection of Mitt Romney’s ever-present and ongoing  lies. Mr. Romney has been over in the United Kingdom making an absolute fool of himself, committing one gaffe after another. He has planned for this trip to show how presidential and how much of a statesman he can appear, but so far has only managed to show what a thoughtless fool he really is. Like many managed news events, this, too, has been a failure. The unrestrained British press has been ripping the poor little rich boy up pretty well, deservedly describing him and his visit as “worse than Sarah Palin”, “a car wreck”, and “devoid of  charm, offensive, and a wazzock”.

About a week ago, I received a letter from Romney’s campaign. Aside from asking me to make a sizable contribution (which I WON’T be doing), it, too, was full of lies. Among these, in a 6 page letter  “robo-signed” by Romney himself, were:

1). “…We once led the world in manufacturing, exports, and infrastructure investments. Today, we lead the world in lawsuits and corporate tax rates.” Romney implies here that all of these changes were due to big government, i.e. President Obama. What he DOESN’T say in this lying implication, is that it was outsourcing of American jobs, caused by pressure from far-right REPUBLICANS like George W. Bush and weak-kneed “bluedog” Democrats like Bill Clinton which caused this outsourcing to occur. He also neglects to mention in this typically complex lie the FACT that corporate tax rates were once FAR HIFGER than they are today; that corporations have steadily shifted the tax burden from them onto American workers since the 1950s; or that a significant portion of Obama’s 2009 stimulus plan went to business tax cuts.

2). “My grandfather was in the construction business and he never really made it himself. But he convinced my dad that he could accomplish anything he set his mind to do.”, and also “This current administration is doing everything it can to crush our spirit of enterprise and innovation.” In the first place, Romney’s grandfather was never poor, as he has stated previously and insinuates here.  Grandpa Romney was successful enough to afford to send his son, Romney’s father, to college, in an era where student loans simply did not exist. Secondly, as far  as ‘crush(ing) the spirit of enterprise and innovation’ is concerned, it was OBAMA who bailed out our automotive industry and SAVED it, while ROMNEY himself OPPOSED  this action and stated it would be best for General Motors and Chrysler to go BANKRUPT! That, of course, is hardly indicative of LIFTING the spirit of enterprise and innovation, and amounts to another complicated Romney LIE!

3). “Because of President Obama’s failed leadership, our debt is too great and our opportunities too few…I am running for president to offer more than just a change in policy. I am offering a dramatic change in perspective and philosophy.” Here, Romney places all the blame for our current record federal debt squarely on Obama, when in fact, the MAJORITY of that debt occurred as a result of the disastrous economic policies set forth under George W. Bush and DICK Cheney! That’s right: Romney completely ignores TWO UNFUNDED WARS, 8 YEARS OF MASSIVE TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH, and an expensive, equally unfunded MEDICARE PHARMACEUTICAL PLAN! That amounted to a gigantic increase in spending while severely cutting back on revenue. With Republicans blocking any and all moves to increase taxes, Obama can hardly be blamed for the record debt all by himself, and Romney knows this full well!

That’ all the lies I could stomach from his campaign letter. There are others as well, among which are:

4). In response to a claim made by the President in Roanoke, VA., that, in effect, businesses did not spring into being all by themselves with only private capital, and were actually dependent on PUBLIC funds which contributed to roads, bridges, and the internet, Romney told a crowd in Pennsylvania that the President actually said, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” THAT was a bald-faced LIE, and Romney went on to say that Obama wants Americans to be “ashamed of success” and that the President is “changing the nature of America.” Obama NEVER said, or ever even meant, ANY of those things – they were just another hideous Romney LIE! Naturally, Fox “News” and all the far-right talk radio idiots were quick to parrot this nonsense as well…

5). Romney claimed that he left Bain Capital for good in 1999 to work on the 2000 Olympics, and that after that time he had no actual contact with the day to day affairs of the company. However, the records show that Romney was still listed as the CEO and WAS PAID A SALARY ALL THE WAY UP TO 2002! When caught in this lie, Romney claimed that his swparture from Bain was “retroactive” and that he really made no company decisions adter 1999. Nice try at a creative dodge, Romney, but these were LIES as well, and you DID engage in outsourcing decisions!

Years ago, I worked for a pathological liar similar to Mitt Romney. That’s why I can tell you, almost solely by the look in his eyes, when Mitt Romney is lying. I regret to say that he is lying almost constantly, and I wish it were not so. It is very wearisome.

That’s it for this month’s Mitt Romney’s lies segment, Feel free to comment and include any other major lies he has told this month. I will post the next segment of this monthly series on or about Aug. 31. See you before then, though, on other matters…

  1. Here is an interesting graph ( see the second figure) that shows the debt as a percent of GPD. It bottoms out around the end of Carter’s term in 1981. Between then and now, the only dip comes during Clinton, a Democrat. Republicans have continually built the debt since Reagan gave it a huge boost during his term.

I think Romney has taken speaking lessons from bush. He learned his lessons well. In fact, he is making bush look good, although not good enough to have him show up at the republican convention. LOL!

It’s great to hear from you again and your post and its graphs prove how disengenuous Romney and the Republicans are to pretend otherwise.

  3. Andie Paysinger says:

I’ve been corresponding with an ex-Massachusetts resident who left the state after her (State) job was outsourced to India. She has related that many of the state employees joked that Mitt was an “illegitimate” governor because he lied about his residency and the voters were stupid enough to believe his lies. He lied about his tax returns then too, Rachel Maddow spoke about it on her show this evening. Both he and his “manager” – Eric Fehrnstrom – have consistently lied for more than a decade about everything to do with his business, his day to day activities, his tax returns and God knows what else.
My friend left Mass. because both she and her husband were fired and they had a chance to move to upstate New York and buy into a business owned by an elderly family member. They believed things were going to get much worse in Mass. before they had a chance to recover. She was the first one who told me that the unemployment rate dropped in the state because more than 200,000 people left the state when there was no hope of recovery in the foreseeable future.
Frankly, I simply can’t understand how rational, intelligent people can believe anything mouthed by this posturing fool. I have heard him described as “shrewd and calculating” and his eyes give it away. He watches to see just how his words are being taken and backs off and changes the subject if he thinks his message is failing.
I think he feels much better with scripted talks, which is the reason he won’t take questions from reporters or anyone else if his people can’t control it.

Thank you for pointing this out, Andie Paysinger, and welcome aboard. This just underscores the fact that Romney has been a pathological liar for many, many years, abd that he cannot be trusted in the least.
