IT’S HIGH TIME WE HELD CONGRESS IN CONTEMPT OF GOVERNMENT!

By Jack Jodell, October 23, 2011

The Senate Republicans voted UNANIMOUSLY last week against the President’s much-needed hobs bill. Ideas-constipated Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) previously chortled, “the first thing to say about this plan is it’s obvious now why the president left out the specifics…not only does it reveal the political nature of this bill, it also reinforces the perception that this administration isn’t all that interested in economic policies that will actually work.” What a load of rubbish! McConnell obviously means that the President isn’t interested in further tax breaks for billionaires or in further easing of regulations on Wall Street.

Meanwhile, over in the Republican-controlled House, House Majority Leader (but not for long) Eric Cantor (R-VA) refused to even bring the jobs bill up for a vote. His objection was to a mere 1/2% increase on incomes over $1 million per year. A MEASLEY 0.5% TAX INCREASE FOR MILLIONAIRES! Can you believe THAT? Cantor also bowed out of a speaking engagement at Wharton Business College once he found out that members of the general  public had been invited to attend in addition to the students and faculty. God forbid! He may have had to address people who were unemployed, or who didn’t approve of his stalling tactics in the House. This little young ladder-climber is far too arrogant and cowardly to be on the public payroll.
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) also had to put in his worthless two cents worth. Speaking before the Economic Club of Washington, he recited the Grover Norquist-inspired myth about how raising taxes on the rich was “off the table” and that he didn’t think they were “a viable option…it’s a very simple equation: tax increases destroy jobs…” He added, “private sector job creators have been pummeled by decisions made in Washington. They’ve been slammed by uncertainty from the constant threat of new taxes, out of control spending, and unnecessary regulations from a government that is always micromanaging, meddling, and manipulating.” Ahem, Mr. Speaker. WHAT ABOUT THE BLANK CHECK YOU AND YOUR FELLOW CONSERVATIVES GAVE GEORGE W. BUSH A DECADE AGO? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE JOBS WHICH WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CREATED WITH THE BUSH TAX CUTS FOR THE WEALTHY? WHAT ABOUT THE DEREGULATION OF WALL STREET WHICH YOU SUPPORTED THAT XAUSED THE CURRENT GREAT RECESSION WE NOW HAVE? What sort of noxious bubble are you living and breathing in for you and your cronies to be continually spewing out economic myths which are destroying our country?

On the subject of foreign policy and national security, the President achieved another stunning victory with the capture and death of Muammar Qaddafi this past week, but you would never know it from listening to the Republicans. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) , Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and John McCain (R-AZ), the worst and most ingratious, bitter loser of a presidential election in well over a century – all were quick to congratulate the British and French for a job well done, and completely ignored Obama’s significant role in the matter entirely. Even the crazed Michele Bachmann (R-MN) felt compelled to offer her vapid opinion. Marching in perfect goose-step with the rest of their miserable party functionaries, they  refuse to give the President credit for anything he accomplishes and they also refuse to pass anything he favors legislatively, EVEN IF THEY SUPPORTED SUCH A MEASURE IN THE PAST!.They hate this President with an irrational zeal, and are bound determined to deny him any cooperation or deference, lest it benefit him politically and enable him to win a second term. I have never seen such utter contempt for a sitting President, especially one who has gone well out of his way to encompass his opposition’s ideas into the legislation he supports. These people are NOT behaving as would true public servants! Their level of unified disdain defies rationality, and their childish, uncooperative behavior is not worthy of the hefty $174,000 salary each of them is being paid by us taxpayers!

Let us not forget those on the other side of the aisle. Both Democratic Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), a Democrat in name only, and Independent Senator Joe LIEberman, who caucuses with the Democrats solely for the purpose of maintaining chairmanship of his Senatorial committees,  have voted against the President’s jobs bill. Neither of these self-centered, egotistical men evidently care about the 14 + MILLION Americans who remain unemployed and are obviously much more preoccupied with maintaing their OWN employment, although LIEberman claims he won’t be running for reelection next year. Nonetheless, he will continue to draw an exorbitamt pension once he leaves office, even as millions of his countrymen battle poverty and foreclosure. Something is clearly radically wrong here!

There are currently MILLIONS of Americans peacefully demonstrating in over 1.000 U.S. cities. As I have mentioned previously, these are average, everyday citizens, not kooks, lunatics, or malcontents. This is the TRUE and ABSOLUTE MAJORITY – the so-called 99%!. They are FED UP with broken, overly partisan government, income disparity, lack of good jobs, and endless wars being waged for profit. But most of all, they are FED UP with out-of-touch legislators who draw huge salaries and then cater almodt exclusively to the richest 1%, the ABSOLUTE MINORITY, of the country! They want ACTION, NOT INACTION, and they want it NOW! They are also voters, who won’t hesitate to cast their ballots in 2012 AGAINST those who stall or obstruct!

Congress has carried an extremely high disapproval rating for a very long time. Only a miniscule 13% currently approve of its performance. It has been bought-out by special interests, and very, very few members are earning their paychecks so far as the 99% are concerned. WE are THEIR bosses, not the other way around! As such, I propose that WE, the 99%, declare these unproductive lowlifes to be IN CONTEMPT OF GOVERNMENT ITSELF and should be penalized very heavily in accordance. Some of these people HATE government anyway. A number of them have proven themselves, ESPECIALLY IN THE SENATE, to be arrogant, pompous little asses who have fashioned themselves into little gods.

Now who, you might ask, will be the ones to mete out the verdict and its sentence? Obviously NOT the Congress—they would be so full of excuses and alibis they would end up making the debate on the jobs bill look productive in comparison! No, my friends – that task belongs to US, the VICTIMS of their inaction and utter nonsense.

I am not suggesting we simply throw everyone out of Congress once their term expires, like some impractical and overly-simplistic fools have advocated. There are a minority of very able people in that body who ARE true servants of the people and who DO strive to represent all of their constituents. They DESERVE reelection, and the nation would benefit greatly from their continued guidance and expertise. People in this category would include, but definitely not be limited to,  Senators Bernie Sanders, Barbara Boxer, Sherrod Brown, Dick Durbin, Debbie Stabenow, Ron Wyden, and Sheldon Whiehouse, as well as Representatives Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, John Lewis, Luis Gutierrez, John Conyers, Keith Ellison, Jan Schakowsky, and a good number of others. These are all concerned legislators who take seriously the committment to SERVE. They genuinely understand and care about the needs of the poor, the homeless, small businesses, and the middle class. As such, they should be kept in office, and joined by other new, progress-minded people.

Then there are the bought-out udeologues of the far right. They include, but are not limited to, Senators Jon Kyl, MITCH McCONNELL, James Inhofe, RAND PAUL, John McCain, Roy Blunt, JIM DeMINT, Bob Corker, JOHN CORNYN, Jeff Sessions, BEN NELSON, Richard Shelby, DAVID VITTER, JOE LIEBERMAN, and Representatives JOE WALSH, MARSHA BLACKBURN, JOE WILSON, MICHELE BACHMANN, ERIC CANTOR, Virginia Foxx,  JOHN BOEHNER, Joe Barton, LOUIS GOHMERT, Mike Pence, PAUL BROUN, and a huge boatload of others. These are all ignorant, self-centered prima donnas and fools, and many are corporate toadies who consistantly vote for the wants of big business and the wealthiest 1%, while completely ignoring or deliberately working against the NEEDS of average, non-wealthy Americans. They are oblivious to, and view as a threat, the wants and needs of us, the majority 99%. These people have consistently been on the TAKE – frpm corporate lobbyists and special interests. It is this latter group, composed almost entirely of far-right Libertarians, Tea Party extremists, and ultra-conservative Republicans that I propose should be charged with contempt of the government. They have blocked, stalled, or outright defeated nearly every single measure designed to benefit us in the 99%.

FOR THEIR SENTENCE, I SUGGEST AND URGE THAT THEY BE DEFEATED IN THEIR NEXT BID FOR REELECTION, AND BE REPLACED INSTEAD BY PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATES WHO WON’T TAKE VOTERS FOR GRANTED! Were such a step to be taken and met with success, it would completely reform Congress, make it productive again, and rip control of our government AWAY from corporate lobbyists and billionaire crooks like the Koch brothers!

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…”

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.

  1. Excellent. But let’s not forget Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi among the good ones. When she was speaker, the House worked longer, harder and turned out more potentially helpful legislation for average Americans than it has in decades. But of course, most of the more than 200 bills sent to the Senate never got a hearing or a vote, thanks to Republicans’ obstruction.

“a mere 1/2% increase on incomes over $1 million per year. A MEASLEY 0.5% TAX INCREASE FOR MILLIONAIRES!”

It’s important to mention how that works, too. The percent increase wouldn’t even have applied to the first million, only anything over a million. So, if someone made $1,100,000, they would have to pay $500 more on the additional $100,000. That would leave them $99,500 of the amount over their first million with which to have a nice life.

I can’t see some business owner slapping his forehead and saying, “OK, that’s it. I was going to hire a couple more people, but now that the government’s taking another $500, nothing doing.”

      S.W.,
Nancy Pelosi was DEFINITELY a far better Speaker of the House than Mr. Boner, and it’s true that a lot of what she accomplished in the House died on the vine due to Republican obstruction. More evidence to use against them on the contempt charge, and perfect proof on why these bastards all need to be thrown out on their asses! Your point on the business owner not refusing to hire due to a minimal tax increase is valid, too, despite the lies the GOP tell about taxes.

Fortunately one of the ideologues of the far right is not going to run again. John Kyle has announced that he will no longer disgrace Arizona after 2012.

  3. I am amazed that anyone earning less than a million dollars per year would vote for these idiots.

    • jackjodell53 says:

      Jerry,
So am I—the bastards ought to be jailed for economic sabotage!

    • Unfortunately, a whole bunch of people still let their resentment about civil rights legislation and gains made by minorities trump their own economic best interests when voting. That’s the most logical and observable thing I can come up with. It’s a shame for them and for all Americans.

That set of photos of the obstructionist Republicans nearly caused me to heave my dinner onto my keyboard. Surely the average voter isn’t that dumb to actually think that this set of clowns has any sense of governance. Nor can they believe that this set of jokers work for The People. If they do, then we are all dead meat!!

    • jackjodell53 says:

      mudrake,
I hear you, and I think voters are finally going to wake up and throw these idiots, most of them anyway, out on their asses!
