On occasion, at my other site, I used to periodically post meaningful quotes by famous thinkers, philosophers, authors, public servants, and other notable people throughout history. I continue that tradition now, below.

– Albert Einstein –

“Politics hates a vacuum. If it isn’t filled with hope, someone will fill it with fear.”
– Naomi Klein –

“God looks at the clean hands, not the full ones.”
– Pubilius Syrus –

“Don’t forget until too late that the business of life is not business – but living.”
– B.C. Forbes –

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
– Henry David Thoreau –

“One of the great diseases is to be nobody to anybody.”
– Mother Teresa –

“The worst pain a man can suffer: to have insight into much and power over nothing.”
– Herodotus –

“Silence in the face of atrocity is acquiescence.”
– Samantha Power –

“Money is the root of all kinds of evil.”
– Jesus –

“It’s not our job to cozy up to power. We’re supposed to be the check and balance of government.”
– Amy Goodman –

About jackjodell53

I am an American Dissident trapped in a country where poor and middle class people are constantly being exploited and lied to by a very rigid and conservative plutocratic elite. I believe in government OF, FOR, and BY the people, not one controlled as it now is by corporations and special interests.

  1. Hi, Jack, great roundup of thought-provoking quotes. I will add
    my own quote:
“The ONLY true purpose of today’s U.S. government is to steal from the poor and the middle class and give to the rich.”

If anyone disagrees, please speak up and tell how I’m wrong.

  2. SJ says:

    …and you quoted Fugazi…
One of my favorite bands of all time Jack.
This is a very sobering parade of observations, pronouncemnets and trueisms.
    cheers, to you Jack.
btw -I just got word that Harmon Killebrew is going into Hospice care, having fought hard and having suffered through several chemo treatments. Anybody who loves the sport has got to be shedding a tear today.
I pray they keep him nice and comfortable as he approaches the end we all must someday reckon with with.

    • SJ,
Thanks for your comment, and I am deeply saddened by the news of Killebrew. He was a true gentle giant and one of my boyhood heroes! I got his autograph one time about 10 years ago (which I have saved and treasured), and he was very obliging. What a tragedy.

      • SJ says:

Yeah man. A real giant. Posted amazing numbers, did it with dignity and maturity.
It’s great that you got to see him face to face, he was already an annointed baseball legend and in the record books long before I came of age.

  3. Mudrake says:

Holy Smoke! As I read through your list, the term “right-wingnut” became louder and louder in my brain.

  4. “Racial and religious oppression — big business domination — inflation — these forces must be stopped and driven back while there is yet time.”
    — President Harry S. Truman, Oct. 25, 1948, quoted in Give ‘Em Hell, Harry, Award Books, 1975.
